Long ago, Coral8, now merged with Aleri, embarked on a channel centric strategy to deliver the Coral8 Engine at the center of as many next generation event-driven applications as possible. Aleri now has numerous OEM arrangements for the Aleri Coral8 Engine which proliferate the use of the Aleri Coral8 Engine and CEP in many applications. This is a strategy Aleri openly embraced.

Earlier this week, Sybase announced new "CEP capabilities" within Sybase RAP. It has been conjectured in the market that this "capability" has come from a licensing arrangement from Aleri. The simple answer to this is: Yes. Sybase has licensed the Aleri Coral8 Engine.

This licensing arrangement is a simple continuation of the channel-centric strategy and is certainly not the last.

I seem to recall a similar licensing arrangement between a little known company called Crystal Decisions and Microsoft, allowing developers to use embedded Crystal Reports functionality within applications developed in Visual Studio. Last time I checked, that strategy seemed to work pretty well for Crystal Decisions. Crystal Decisions, Microsoft and hundreds of other highly successful companies have used such a strategy.

Sybase customers will be able to use Aleri Coral8 Engine functionality within their RAP applications, for example. And, they will encounter first hand the elegance and power of Coral8 CCL and Coral8 Engine.

If we do our job right, when that customer wants to build more CEP applications they will have a positive experience and newfound skills from that use of the Aleri Coral8 Engine inside RAP and the customer will come to Aleri to license more software and build more CEP applications using Aleri Coral8 CCL and Engine. And, under the Aleri Product Family, they can further extend the CEP driven applications with seamless integration with other Aleri products such as the Aleri Coral8 Portal, Live OLAP, Market Liquidity Analysis, and more.

If you were a customer wouldn't you want to buy a CEP Engine that is embedded in thousands of other applications. Wouldn't you want to be part of the largest CEP developer and application community? Doesn't that define the greatest source of innovation and the safest choice in the market?
