Aleri Live OLAP
The Aleri Live OLAP server is an optional extension to the Aleri Streaming Platform that provides powerful multi-dimensional analysis capabilities on collected event data. Aleri OLAP seamlessly integrates with the Aleri Streaming Platform to collect event data in a column-oriented data store designed around Aleri’s virtual cube technology to support the needs of ad-hoc multi-dimensional analysis. Unlike traditional OLAP tools that require pre-aggregation of the data, limiting the number of dimensions and preventing the ability to analyze live data, the Aleri OLAP server continuously loads data from the Aleri Streaming Platform and provides on -demand aggregation. The result is real-time, interactive analysis of continuously changing data.

Aleri Live OLAP is a distributed OLAP service that can support a variety of desktop analysis reporting tools, both off the shelf and custom. It supports integration with many popular OLAP data analysis tools (such as Microsoft Excel and JPivot) via the built-in standard ODBO interface for running MDX queries.
Product Benefits include:
- Virtual Cube technology
The use of virtual cubes means that you are analyzing up-to-the-second, live data in real-time. This is very different from traditional OLAP technology that relies on pre-aggregation.
- Analyze data across unlimited dimensions
Dimensions are expensive using traditional OLAP technology. Each dimension adds time and space requirements to the cubes. With Aleri’s virtual cube technology the number of dimensions doesn’t matter.
- Dynamically add dimensions as you go
Without the need for pre-aggregation of data, you can add and modify dimensions at any time and then use them immediately.
- Fast query performance
Aleri’s virtual cube technology delivers superior query performance – i.e. faster query response time – over leading OLAP products.
- Simple set-up and administration
OLAP products have a reputation for putting a heavy burden on the DBA. Because the systems are resource intensive, they require planning as to which dimensions users will need, how many dimensions they can handle, and significant work around performance optimization. With Aleri Live OLAP, this planning is no longer needed.
- Transactional data drilldown
Because Aleri Live OLAP does not pre-aggregate, there is a tighter link between aggregated and transactional data compared to conventional OLAP technology. Aggregated cell drilldown to see which data contributed to the results is possible, which can also extend to real-time if sent from the Aleri CEP (complex event processing) engine.
